Working Together to Recover From
There is no question that we have experienced unprecedented times since the beginning of 2020 as a direct result of the COVID-19 crisis. Whether one is a proponent of rolling COVID-19 lockdowns and guideline strategies, or one believes that the government’s solutions have created more devastation than the virus itself, the crisis has created tangible problems for every US citizen.
Unfortunately, Chattanoogans are not immune to the hardships of the virus.
As the medical community, federal, state and local governments scrambled for an understanding and treatment of Covid-19, citizens everywhere not only lost loved ones, but have been financially devastated in many cases because of job layoffs, restrictions, and the resulting economic disaster many individuals and families experienced.
Treatment protocols have advanced 10-fold, and now with the onset of a promising vaccine, we can at least collectively feel that we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. We all recognize that we are not free from the virus’ devastation, but we are finally in a position where we can all at least create individual strategies on how we can continue to recover both physically, and economically.
America needs to go back to work, and small businesses must be saved and patronized to restart our local economy and create job viability. With a cynical eye, we can see how huge retail and other large corporations have actually flourished during this past year, yet small businesses, who are the lifeblood of our economy, have either closed permanently or are struggling to restart their contribution to the economy, and continue to be the largest employers of our citizens.
In Hamilton County, the mayor has implemented COVID-19 strategies for the entire county, which the city of Chattanooga must follow.
